SUMMARY:Kristallnacht Lecture 2024
DESCRIPTION:The annual Kristallnacht Lecture honors the tragic events of Kristallnacht in 1938\, which marked the beginning of the Holocaust. This year’s featured speaker is author Arthur J. Magida\, who will discuss his latest book\, Two Wheels to Freedom: The Story of a Young Jew\, Wartime Resistance\, and a Daring Escape. A reception and book signing will follow the presentation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis annual event is co-sponsored by the University of La Verne and the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. \nAbout the Author\nArthur J. Magida\, is an award-winning journalist and author. In addition to his writing books\, many of them focused on the Holocaust\, he has been an environmental and general reporter\, taught journalism and writing at Georgetown University and the University of Baltimore\, consulted for PBS and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum\, and served as editorial director of Jewish Lights Publishing as well as senior editor of the Baltimore Jewish Times. \nHe has received 16 Simon Rockower Awards from the American Jewish Press Association; five A.D. A doctoral candidate in Education for Social Justice at the University of San Diego\, Ymasumac’s research focuses on oral storytelling as a counternarrative and the coexistence of diverse ways of knowing in educational spaces.
